This little frog was a big surprise to our Kawana Waters team when they walked into the clinic to start their day only to find him chilling in the dog water bowl in our reception area. Thanks to our friends at Petbarn next door, we were able give him a little tucker that consisted of crickets.

Meet the beautiful pair of Devon Rex felines who recently visited our team at Greencross Vets Kawana Waters for their vaccinations. Precious, with the lighter face and Belle her sister are non-stop purring machines even during their examination with Dr Sarah. Nurse Abby and Dr Sarah just adore these feline friends when they visit!

Meet Arty, the feline that had been missing from home for some time until his dog friend found him lying in the garden. Arty was weak, sore, bruised and unwell. The clever dog alerted his owners who brought Arty to Greencross Vets Caulfield South that morning.

Poor Arty had some labored breathing, was not eating and appeared to have been in a lot of pain. X-rays taken at the clinic revealed abnormalities that were consistent with diaphragmatic hernia and misplacement of abdominal organs in his chest!

The Caulfield South team scheduled an emergency surgery and organised extra nursing staff for the operation so that one team member was dedicated to artificially respire Arty throughout the long and complicated surgery.

During surgery Dr Ben-David identified the extensive rupture of the diaphragm, he returned the stomach, spleen and part of the liver from the chest back to the abdominal cavity and undertook extensive suturing of the diaphragm. While performing this repair Dr Ben-David also found a very badly injured right kidney that was successfully removed at the same time!

The surgery took two and a half hours and we all breathed a big sigh of relief when Arty began to breathe on his own while the last skin sutures were being placed.

Arty stayed with us for a few days after the surgery, he was ably nursed back to health by the staff and eventually returned home.

With special attentive care from his family at home, Arty is coming along extremely well, whilst he is still homebound for a few more weeks. We here at Greencross Vets Caulfield South believe that Arty is one of the bravest heroes we have ever met.
